FROM WAREHOUSE TO HOME.
Wow! Until today, I hadn’t looked back on the last 12 months from when this all started! We had just had our third babe and decided that having a newborn, starting the building process, and having an unexpected back surgery all while Mr. Shoreworthy started a new traveling job, was a GREAT idea! haha. We all survived and even managed to make some really good memories in the process. Thank goodness for google photos to be able to look back on all the happy moments amoung the chaos!

We chose a unique building process, and I’m excited to share it with you!
Our home was built completely indoor, in a WAREHOUSE!
Many have no idea this process even exists for a solid, stick-built home. My parents have been builders for most of my life, and had built an entire community using Custom Touch Homes in Madison, South Dakota. Check out their website for more info!
Custom Touch Homes builds customized homes in a climate-controlled facility, (A HUGE BONUS, living in a climate where snow flies for half the year!) using state-of-the-art equipment and industry-leading manufacturers. With exceptional materials, regular inspections, and high quality building inspections, their custom built structures equal (if not exceed) the standards of traditional construction. SAY WHAT?! Just like any other home. Custom touch works with Montgomery’s in Madison and their service and materials are amazing. They also use Rosebud Wood Products and we are so happy with our cabinetry.
What is the biggest advantage of building with Custom Touch Homes? Upon choosing your floor plan and making any customizations in their onsite showroom, your home will be built and shipped in a matter of weeks!
It’s true! Our home took 5 weeks from start to finish! Once on site, you have an average of another 30 days of onsite work. Our onsite work included setting the home on a foundation with a complete basement, building a three stall garage behind the home attached by a breezeway, pouring cement patios and driveway, and my personal favorite part of the house, our front porch! All of this work and timeline can vary from home to home, based on your needs. As long as weather is on your side, all of this flows smoothly.
Of course, if you choose this route, there are certain criteria you have to comply with, like only being able to build a single story home. This was totally fine with us, as we wanted a ranch-style home with an open floor plan. There are also width and length standards in order to get your home down the road. The home comes in one piece, completely finished inside. Our home is 34 feet deep which is just as wide as most homes! Its really amazing how they can get these bad boys down the road in one piece! I’d never want to be the driver of that truck. yikes! They are so good at what they do and while our house only had to come about 50 miles, they can ship homes hundreds of miles down the road from their warehouse! So impressive.
