1 YARD LINEN FABRIC - Linen comes in various thickness/textures/colors - Choose whatever speaks to you! A little heavier linen will hang nicer on the wall. The linen I chose was 44 wide roll when spread out, so I got one yard to equal a 36x44 inch piece of fabric.
HAMMER & SCRAP WOOD TO PLACE UNDER GROMMET WHILE POUNDING
PROCESS:
STEAM or IRON LINen fabric so all fold lines are removed before painting
I noticed in my inspiration photos that the art was sectioned in 5ths. Meaning the words took up three PARTS, and there was an equivalent of equal parts blank space on top and bottom - I then found the very center AND MARKED IT. NEXT, I divided my 44 inch length by 5 to find the height THAT the letters should be. I made my letters 7.5 inches tall. I started with the center line “FOR” and built the rest from there. It’s easier to keep the balance when starting from the middle! I used the tape measure to keep a consistant size letter as I went and free handed each letter as I referred back to inspiration picture. The beauty of these letters are that they are made to be imperfect! Use the pencil to sketch it out and erase when needed! Don’t overthink it, just go for it!
After i had all the letters sketched out, I slapped on the paint! This was for sure a patience game for me, but i’m also not going to let a challenge beat me, so i took my time and angled that dang brush and got those smooth edges! Again, they don’t have to be perfectly straight, but dont be afraid to use some paint so it fills in nicely!
Don’t forget to lay wax paper or cardboard under your fabric as the paint will leak through the fabric!
